ATLANTA – Wednesday, November 18, 2015, the State Board of Pardons and Paroles met to consider a clemency request from attorneys representing condemned inmate Marcus Ray Johnson. The Board has voted to deny clemency.

In reaching its decision, in addition to hearing testimony during the meeting on Wednesday, the Board prior to the meeting had thoroughly reviewed Johnson's parole case file which includes the circumstances of the death penalty case, Johnson’s criminal history, and a comprehensive history of his life.

Marcus Ray Johnson was convicted on April 5, 1998, of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, rape, and aggravated battery in the March 1994 death of Angela Sizemore in Albany. Johnson was sentenced to death. Johnson’s conviction and sentence have been upheld throughout the appeals process.
 
Johnson is scheduled to die by lethal injection on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

In Georgia, the Parole Board has the sole constitutional authority to commute, or reduce, a death sentence to life with the possibility of parole or to life without the possibility of parole.
