December 2023 Board Meeting and 80th Anniversary Celebration

Former employees and retirees joined current Georgia Parole staff to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles during its monthly operational meeting on December 6, 2023. The meeting took place at the State Capitol, where, in 1943, the Georgia Parole Board was created. Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett spoke about the milestone. “Today truly is a celebration in recognition of 80 years of enhancing public safety in Georgia through informed clemency decision-making," said Barnett. Barnett said the meeting highlighted and recognized parole leadership of the past that set today’s agency up for success.

As former Board Members spoke about their time at the Board, current Board Chairman Terry Barnard thanked them for laying the foundation for today's Parole Board. “Gentlemen you are giants, literally you are giants," he said. A special presentation marking the Board's 80th Anniversary included a video message from Governor Brian Kemp congratulating the Georgia Parole Board and saying, "the Board has played an important part in the reintegration of Georgians ready to rebuild their lives."
