Atlanta, GA - Victims of crime in Georgia will have an opportunity to discuss with the Parole Board the crime and the offenders involved in those crimes on October 9, 2012, at the Lowndes County Judicial Complex, in Valdosta, Georgia.  The Victims Visitors’ Day will be conducted by the Department of Corrections and State Board of Pardons and Paroles’ Office of Victim Services in collaboration with the Southern Judicial Circuit and Alapaha Judicial Circuit’s Victim Witness Assistance Program.

Crime victims and their families in attendance will receive information concerning the current status of offenders, can register to receive future notifications regarding the status of offenders and receive information about victim claims processing. Agency staff including Board Members will be available to meet with victims of crime during the daylong event.

“This is always an important event for the Parole Board,” says Board Chairman Albert Murray. “ Being sensitive to the special needs of crime victims will remain a top priority for the Board.

Over 1,100 victims and family members have been able to voice their concerns in reference to offenders, in these face-to-face meetings with Board staff. The Board is committed to allowing victims to be heard, and will continue to hold this productive and fulfilling event throughout the state. 

A brief ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., and scheduled meetings with victims will continue throughout the day.
