Prior to her 27 year career with Cobb County, Ms. McCoy worked with the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit's District Attorney’s Office where she began the Victim Witness Assistance Program. She implemented many programs for victims of crime and community awareness campaigns including a Grief Support Group for Homicide Victims and the Cherokee County Night Out Against Crime. Ms. McCoy was instrumental in obtaining a grant for an inter-agency Domestic Violence Task Force in Cherokee County. The grant made it possible for law enforcement and Victim Advocates to work from a central location to investigate and prosecute domestic violence cases while simultaneously providing services to victims. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Cherokee Family Violence Center, as an officer of the Cherokee County Family Violence Task Force, and on the Board of Directors for the Anna Crawford Center for Children. 

Ms. McCoy was the Director of the Victim Witness Unit for the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office from April 1999 to April 2024, where she also maintained a caseload providing services to victims of crime involved in capital cases and select high-profile cases. Ms. McCoy was also responsible for researching, writing, managing and administration of grants, resulting in the office being awarded over $10M in grant funds. She is also part of the faculty for Georgia’s Victim Assistance Academy, an initiative of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. She has been involved in Academy implementation, programming, and instruction since 2006. Ms. McCoy is a founding member of the steering committee that developed and implemented the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program in Cobb County, a program that provides specialized forensic exams and support services for victims of sexual assault. 

Ms. McCoy previously served as a member of the Cobb County SANE/SART Committee, the Advisory Board for the Social Work Program of Kennesaw State University, the Cobb Collaborative, the Cobb County Law Enforcement Association, the Cobb County Domestic Violence Task Force, and the Cobb Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention. She was a Board Member for the LiveSafe Resources, Inc. (formerly the YWCA of NWGA) from 2007 to 2013. She was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry Review Board from 2007 to 2012. 

Ms. McCoy has been active with the legislation, presenting crime victim-related information to several committees, including working with the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia on the passage of the Crime Victims Restitution Act of 2005 and with other advocacy groups for the successful revision to the Georgia Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights in 2010. Ms. McCoy was the Project Director for the Cobb District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Project from November 1997 until April 1999. In this capacity, Ms. McCoy was responsible for providing training and education to law enforcement and for educating the community at-large about domestic violence issues. Ms. McCoy was further responsible for creating and reviewing domestic violence protocols in the County and assisted in the creation of the first County Wide Law Enforcement Protocol on Domestic Violence.

Ms. McCoy obtained a master’s degree in public administration from Kennesaw State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology from "The Women’s College" of Brenau University. Ms. McCoy was a part-time professor for the Department of Human Services at Kennesaw State University for over ten years.

Ms. McCoy received the “Young Alumnae Award” from Brenau in 1999 for her service to the community, the institution, and professional achievement. Further, she was awarded the 2000 Annual Victim Service Provider Award from the Crime Victims Advocacy Council and the 2001 VIP Award from the Cobb Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention. She was honored by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council with the 2008 “Eagle Award” in the field of Advocacy. She was also honored with the 2012 VIP Award from SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, the 2014 Pat Head Dignity Award from the YWCA of NWGA, and the 2014 Alumnae Professional Achievement Award from Brenau University. She was also honored by the YWCA of Northwest Georgia in March 2015 as one of Cobb County’s 15 Women of Achievement. She was awarded the 2022 VWAP Director of the Year from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia.
