Atlanta – The State Board of Pardons and Paroles partnered today with the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry to distribute food to those in need. The distribution was conducted this morning at the West Hunter Street Baptist Church.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) works hand-in-hand with its nonprofit partner agencies to host Mobile Food Pantries in under-served communities by sending truckloads of food to be distributed to those in need. The Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center (SWEEAC) is a nonprofit partner of the ACFB assisting with the Mobile Food Pantry today. Twice a month, volunteers are needed to help set up the distribution area by unpacking and organizing food to be distributed, then bagging or boxing up food for the recipients.

“Mobile Food Pantries are one of the ways we work with our partner agencies to provide food to those who need it in our community. We are able to serve approximately 200 families at each one,” said Angie Clawson, public relations manager for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “With 1 in 7.5 people in metro Atlanta and north Georgia turning to food pantries and meal service programs each year, we are thankful for partners like SWEEAC and West Hunter Street Baptist Church and the volunteers who come out to help get the food to the hungry. Our many thanks to the parole board employees who assisted us today. This effort means many families will have much needed food.”

Through the Parole Board’s Community Outreach office, the agency is engaging and assisting communities, groups and organizations throughout Georgia.

“This particular opportunity was brought to us by one of our employees,” says Anita Cloud, the board’s community outreach coordinator.

“Unpacking and organizing and then distributing the food to areas of metro Atlanta takes manpower. We have many employees eager to contribute to our communities. We have the manpower at the Parole Board!” stated Cloud. “Our employees really enjoyed themselves and found today to be a very rewarding experience,” she added.
