May 2023 Board Meeting

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles held its May public meeting in Atlanta, where a notice of consideration to amend the Board's clemency guidelines was introduced and initially adopted. This serves as the first step in the administrative procedures act required to update the guidelines system. The Board's utilization of a guidelines system in the parole decision process is in compliance with Georgia law and industry best practices.

During Executive Director Chris Barnett's report, recognition was given to new and recently promoted employees, as well as staff members who have achieved new levels of professional and academic success. Notably, Clemency Division Director Crystal Moon was acknowledged regarding the recent resolution passed by the Georgia House of Representatives which praised Moon's commitment to public service (HR406).

"Our agency's staff continue to strive to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Providing and recognizing these opportunities is a major part of being a continuous learning agency. I am proud of their achievements and contributions to our public safety mission," Barnett said.
