Georgia Public Defender Council 2022 Summer Conference

The Parole Board leadership provided an informational training session at the Georgia Public Defender Council 2022 Summer Conference at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Georgia. Parole staff presented an overview of the parole consideration process for public defenders in attendance. After the presentation, a Q & A session with the attorneys took place.

"This was another opportunity to engage stakeholders in the parole consideration process," said Chris Barnett, Exec. Director of the Parole Board. By fully understanding the parole process in Georgia, these attorneys can better represent their clients. Parole staff did an excellent job explaining the process and how stakeholders can actively engage the Board and provide input on individual cases," Barnett said.

Anyone can provide information to the Parole Board, which will be considered by the Board members when making parole decisions. Stakeholders include but are not limited to, public defenders, defense attorneys, prosecutors, victims, law enforcement, judges, advocates, and the public.

The Georgia Public Defender Council is an independent agency that provides legal defense for Georgia citizens.
