APAI Training Conference San Diego 2022

At the Association of Paroling Authorities International (APAI) 2022 Training Conference, the Georgia Parole Board provided two presentations to APAI members from across the country and international members. A general session presentation was titled, "The Media, Critical Incidents, and Stakeholder Engagement." The breakout workshop was titled, "Guidelines for End-Stage Decision Making." In the general session, investigative print and broadcast reporters and agency information officers from Georgia and California discussed media relations with paroling authorities. In the breakout workshop, Georgia parole staff discussed methods of consistently handling and reaching decisions regarding supervision violations.

Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett says, "This year we were excited to showcase best practices from Georgia with two training opportunities for the APAI membership. I'm proud of how we do business in Georgia and our training sessions were received very well by those attending the conference this year. We provided effective strategies for engaging and educating stakeholders in order for the public to better understand how parole works and we explained how we’re enhancing public safety through our decision-making process,” he added.

Media representatives joining the Georgia Parole Board's presentation from Atlanta were Randy Travis, Fox 5 and Carrie Teegardin of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
