Atlanta, GA – Sex offenders under parole supervision in Georgia again this year will be subjected to increased supervision and they won’t be allowed to participate in Halloween related events. The offenders will be under curfews or directed to attend programming this Halloween. Parole officers will make residence checks to ensure sex offenders are not participating in Halloween activities and that they are complying with supervision requirements.

“The men and women who wear the badges of parole officers work with community pride and have always made public safety their highest priority,” stated Parole Board Chairman Terry Barnard. “The Board supports these officers with our highest resources to ensure strict compliance with parole conditions during these upcoming events,” he added.

Dusk to dawn curfews will be in place for sex offenders on parole and compliance sweeps, where officers visit the homes of sex offenders, will be conducted throughout the evening hours in many areas of the state. Residence searches will also be conducted.

Sex offenders on parole must keep outside lights turned off and are prohibited from answering the door, except for law enforcement. Halloween decorations outside the home are also prohibited.

“These offenders are made very aware that they are to do nothing that would draw attention to themselves and that they know they cannot participate in Halloween at all,” said Michael Nail, Executive Director of Parole.

In some areas of the state, sex offenders will be directed to report to a facility or location and remain there during “trick or treating” hours. Parole officers will attend some community group activities that are planned, conducting surveillance and ensuring sex offenders are not in attendance.

Families can also check the Georgia sex offender registry to determine where registered sex offenders live.   http://gbi.georgia.gov/georgia-sex-offender-registry.
