Parole Officers Conduct Compliance Sweep in Fulton County

May 20, 2011;

Atlanta, Ga - On May 19 th, 2011, Operation Nightrider II was conducted by the South Metro Parole Center, ATF Task Force Officers and the US Marshals. There were approximately 18 officers participating, divided into three teams. The operation focused on the cities of College Park, Union City, and Fairburn. The mission of the operation was to conduct compliance checks and serve warrants on parolees suspected of being in possession of weapons, ammunition and other contraband.

When the operation concluded, 26 compliance checks were conducted and seven warrants were attempted producing two arrests. Of the 26 compliance checks, seven parolees were not home and were in violation of their curfew. Parole violations may be handled administratively but may also result in the parolee’s revocation and return to prison. One parolee was found to be in possession of ammunition and a magazine. All other parolee’s were found to be in compliance.

The compliance checks are part of the agency’s goal to enhance public safety.

“Once again, our officers have done a tremendous job working with other law enforcement. These compliance sweeps demonstrate that we will continue to contribute to public safety by holding our parolees accountable,” says Michael Nail, Director of Parole.

One parolee who was searched stated, “We all know y’all are coming to check. It is not if, it is when.”

The relationship being built between Pardons and Paroles, the ATF Task Force and US Marshals Service, and many local agencies, is the main reason large scale operations, such as this one, are successful and will continue in the future. Public safety is the number one priority of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles and the Board will continue these collaborative efforts with the agency's law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of the public is not compromised.
