Atlanta – The State Board of Pardons and Paroles is kicking off the agency’s first annual Back-To-School Drive for school supplies for students in need.

“The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for our children, but for many parents it can be a stressful time as they struggle to meet the demands of the required school supply list, while balancing their other financial obligations. Our employees understand and want to help,” stated Chris Barnett, Interim Executive Director of Parole.

Now through August 3, 2015, the Parole Board will be collecting backpacks, spiral notebooks, notebook paper, pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, folders, pencil pouches, scissors, rulers, clothing, shoes and other school supplies for all age groups.

“We’re asking our employees and the public to help if they can. By coming together, we can ensure that students have a successful start to the school year,” Barnett said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Board’s reception office (Room 458) located on the 4th Floor of the Floyd Veterans Memorial Building at 2 Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive, S.E., in Atlanta, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Board employees will distribute supplies to school children in time for the start of the school year, in partnership with the Division of Family & Children Services.

“What a great opportunity to engage our community in a positive way. Remember, it takes all of us working together, supporting one another to make a difference in our kids' lives. Let's get them started the RIGHT way and have them show up for the first day of school, proud and ready to take on the world!” Director Barnett exclaimed.
