Atlanta, GA – The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has scheduled a Victims Visitors’ Day for July 11, 2013, in Lawrenceville.

In collaboration with the Gwinnett County Victim Witness Assistance Program, the Parole Board is inviting victims of crime to meet with Parole Board Members and parole staff to discuss the cases and parole status of offenders.

“The Parole Board’s Victims Visitors’ Day is an opportunity for crime victims to inform the Board about the crime’s impact on their lives. It is one of the many important aspects of the job of a Parole Board Member who decides cases,” stated Board Chairman Albert Murray. “As Board Members, we find these events extremely valuable because we’re able to assist Georgia crime victims, who never asked to become a part of the criminal justice system. We look forward to this opportunity to hear information about these cases that we may not have,” added Murray.

Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter says, “We’re happy to host this event and provide a place where victims can meet with their Parole Board Members. I think our job is to make sure we put victims in touch with the right people throughout the process and that includes the Parole Board.”

Crime victims are asked to R.S.V.P. with the Department of Corrections and Parole Board’s Office of Victim Services. Appointments can still be made after this date.

“This is the seventeenth Victims Visitors’ Day conducted across Georgia since 2006. More than sixteen hundred victims have been assisted at the events,” said Robertson.

Robertson says victims can register to receive updates on offenders through the Victim Information Program (V.I.P.). V.I.P. is a 24-hour automated information system providing victims of crime and their families with access to information about their offender. V.I.P. has more than 20,000 registered victims.

Victims Visitors’ Day will be held at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. A brief ceremony at 9 a.m. will be held prior to victims’ meetings with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
